Johnny Someday
Above anything in this world
Johnny loved his misery.
He stayed there on the steps of his house,
A pale figure under the dim light.
He would contemplate it,
Turning it on all sides.
This was his misery
And it was so exquisite.
A little out of this world,
Johnny looked to his side.
There, near the steps of his house
Was a little dead body, under the dim light.
He would contemplate it,
Turning it on all sides.
This was a dead bird
And it had the neck broken.
Back into the earth
Johnny buried the bird.
He stayed there, near the grave -
A pale figure under the bright light,
Waving his misery away -
Someday.
